Guangxi as a Gateway to ASEAN

As China’s only region sharing both land and maritime borders with ASEAN, Guangxi has emerged as a critical frontier for cross-border exchanges and economic collaboration. Leveraging its geographical advantages and resource base, the province is building an AI-powered industrial ecosystem under the model of “R&D in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou + integration in Guangxi + application in ASEAN.”

Li Pan, Director of the Information Office of Guangxi’s government, described Guangxi as “a land brimming with charm, vitality, and potential.” He said the journey would offer media representatives a close look at cross-border cooperation in Chongzuo, the growth of emerging industries in Nanning, and the innovative vitality of Liuzhou’s industrial economy. “Through this unique window, we can better appreciate the tremendous opportunities in China–ASEAN cooperation and development,” Li noted.

Voices from Organizers and Participants

Wu Qingcai, Editor-in-Chief of China News, highlighted Guangxi’s growing role in promoting high-quality development under the Belt and Road Initiative. “Standing at a new starting point for China-ASEAN cooperation, Guangxi is demonstrating the spirit of working together into the future. We hope participating media will vividly present Guangxi’s dynamism to the world,” he said.

Ban Huaqin, Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Chongzuo Municipal Committee, emphasized Chongzuo’s role in deepening China–ASEAN economic integration. He pointed to projects such as the Nanning–Pingxiang high-speed railway, the China–Vietnam smart port, and industry clusters in electronics and ASEAN specialty products as examples of how AI is empowering cross-border industrial chains.

Representing ASEAN media, Singapore’s Fortune Times senior journalist Larry Teo observed that “China has achieved remarkable breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and new energy vehicles, drawing wide international attention. Under the Belt and Road framework, Singapore has deepened ties with many provinces in China. I look forward to reporting Guangxi’s transformation with the keen eye of a journalist.”
