(Singapore, 28 May 2025) Yesterday, Singapore Space & Technology Ltd (SSTL) has officially launched the SST Think Tank—marking itself a strategic transformation into the Singapore Space & Technology Think Tank. This bold move positions Singapore at the forefront of the global space economy, as it seeks to drive the application and commercialisation of space technologies beyond the aerospace sector, unlocking Asia’s US$619 billion space potential by 2030.

Founded in 2007, SSTL has long served as an ecosystem builder for Asia’s space industry. The launch of the SST Think Tank signifies a major strategic shift—from ecosystem builder to catalyst for space commercialisation.
According to industry forecasts, Earth observation applications alone are expected to contribute over US$619 billion in economic value to the Asia-Pacific region by 2030. The SST Think Tank aims to accelerate the adoption of space solutions across a wide range of industries, including sustainability, climate resilience, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cybersecurity, robotics, IoT, logistics, healthtech, insurance and finance, digital infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing.
The council of SST Think Tank brings together a diverse group of world-renowned leaders, including Dr. Kartik Sheth, former NASA Associate Chief Scientist, who serves as Council Chair, alongside Dr. Raha Hakimdavar, Hidetaka Aoki, Candace Johnson, and Jason Bender.
“ Asia has long been a quiet powerhouse in space, but we’re now reaching critical mass,” said Dr. Sheth. “ The SST Think Tank is both a signal and a solution—we are here to catalyse commercial outcomes and shift space into the mainstream of global business strategy.”
The launch of the SST Think Tank also injects fresh momentum into Singapore’s flagship Global Space and Technology Convention (GSTC), which has doubled in size for its 2025 edition, attracting global attention and participation.
Jeremy Chan, Chairman of the SST Think Tank, remarked, “We are building bridges for cross-sector collaboration and enabling strategic dialogue to ensure that space technologies achieve real commercial impact. Asia’s space moment has arrived, and Singapore is at the forefront of this transformation.”
With space technologies playing an increasingly critical role in areas such as climate resilience, supply chain security, digital infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing, the SST Think Tank aims to foster an inclusive, innovation-driven global space economy. It invites corporate leaders, policymakers, and innovators to join in shaping the future of the industry and contribute to a more connected and sustainable world.
Since 2011, Singapore has successfully launched 30 satellites, with at least nine more expected by 2027. The nation’s growing space sector now comprises over 70 companies and 2,000 professionals, underscoring its rising influence in the regional and global space ecosystem.
