(Singapore, 07.10.2026) Come December, Japanese luxury fountain penmaker Namiki is proud to present its 2026 Limited-Edition Fountain Pen, ‘Wolf Moon’ – a masterpiece created as an ode to the strength and independence of wolves, and named after the first full moon of January.
For generations, Namiki has sought to unite the beauty of traditional Japanese lacquer craft with the enduring ritual of writing. More than writing instruments, its Maki-e fountain pens serve as canvases for intricate handwork, rendering time-honoured Japanese techniques on a tool that can be cherished and used. Available in limited quantities worldwide each year, Namiki’s Maki-e fountain pens are highly coveted among collectors and connoisseurs from around the world.
This legacy is carried forward by the Kokkokai, a collective of master artisans with a shared vision to advance the craft and preserve centuries-old Maki-e techniques that have been passed down through generations. Drawing from Japanese culture and nature, their artistry transforms these subjects into sophisticated compositions, turning each fountain pen into a collectible work of art.
This year, the 2026 Limited-Edition Fountain Pen captures the resilience of the wolf, representing both the strength found in unity and the independence of those who leave the pack to forge their own path. These contrasting qualities embody a delicate balance between belonging and individuality – a sentiment reflected in the fountain pen’s central motif of a solitary white wolf beneath the full moon on a quiet winter night.

Across the body of the fountain pen, the mystical winter landscape unfolds in a restrained palette of shimmering silver, white, light blue, and bluish-purple undertones. At its centre, the white wolf is rendered using Hira Maki-e (Flat Maki-e), an arduous technique in which the main design is first built up in lacquer, embellished with sprinkled silver powder, and sealed beneath successive layers of coloured lacquer. Once hardened, artisans then burnish the surface to bring out the intricate details of the wolf’s plush white coat. A sparkling piece of Raden (Mother-of-Pearl) also forms its eye, with an iridescence that gleams under the light as the fountain pen turns in the hand.
Hira Maki-e (Flat Maki-e) is also used to render the surrounding trees and plants, forming fine details that lend texture and depth across the foreground. Accents of twinkling Raden (Mother-of-Pearl) also add a luminous quality to the landscape, with highlights that catch against the darker hues of the wintry night.
The full moon and starry sky are brought to life through Togidashi Maki-e (Burnished Maki-e). It is a painstaking technique that involves building the primary design with Hira Maki-e (Flat Maki-e), followed by an even application of Urushi lacquer. Once dried, the surface is burnished with charcoal to reveal a smooth, lustrous finish and unveil the artwork beneath. The resulting sky carries a soft, ethereal glow, with the full moon emerging brightly against the deep expanse of the night. The distant cliff and background are similarly layered through Hira Maki-e (Flat Maki-e) and Togidashi Maki-e (Burnished Maki-e) to evoke a sense of quiet solitude beneath the boundless night sky.
The pen is crafted in the Chinkin size, distinguished by its generous barrel proportions and comfortable presence in the hand. Echoing the nocturnal palette of the Namiki ‘Wolf Moon’, the 2026 Limited-Edition Fountain Pen is presented in a specially designed silver-toned box with a sleek, black velvet-lined interior – a fitting homage to the wolf’s solitude and an evocative introduction to the artistry within.
Namiki’s 2026 Limited-Edition Fountain Pen, ‘Wolf Moon’, retails at SGD5,000 each (before GST). Only 300 pieces are available worldwide from 11 December 2026.
